Provocative, Enlightening & Highly Entertaining.
This book will forever change your assumptions, opinions and understanding of the entire world around you.
No one book today covers the range of important, consequential, far reaching, sensitive, and thought provoking subjects as Our Modern World. Get Used to it.
You will agree, disagree, argue about, and laugh reading and learning about how the world is really operating now, how it worked in the past, and why past and present are all inextricably intertwined: From the history of money, to climate, religion, global power, demographics, politics, women’s issues, and much more. This is the definitive commentary and study on the important hopes and angsts of Our Modern World. There are fresh solutions, much to debate, a veritable library of ideas, and perhaps most importantly, a push to everyone to start thinking critically, and doing.
This book is as much about what we cannot change versus what we can change. The word “we” suggests a “together” when actually my book is more centered on the individual. We can change but it needs to be transformational. We need to step away from grandiose statements and visions of a utopian emissions- free, world. These are false. For starters, even if achievable, right now, they are far too expensive as you will read and I will prove. That is not to say we should not strive for low-cost renewables. I disagree with the naysayers. All the same perceptions apply to every category and chapter in this book.

From the moment you open to the first page that is coffee-cup stained, and has several lines of copy pre-high- lighted for you in yellow as “More than worthy to remember,” you’ll know you’re about to have a unique and fresh experience. How many books have you read where the author asked you—no, told you, to highlight passages, underline ideas, dog ear the pages, carry it with you at all times for reference to important ideas, make notes in the margins, and offer solutions to challenges you’ve been pondering yourself for a long time—is climate change man made or not, and if so, how and why? What was the first form of money that is basically still being used today? Why is a dwindling population actually NOT good for the ecology or the economy. Mark exhorts readers to think outside the box—way outside! He’s even provided his personal email for you to argue with him if you wish. There is a section devoted to arguments; how to debate any subject intelligently and fairly—and how to win—most of the time—and if not, at least appreciate a new view of any important subject.
If you are a history or a philosophy buff, you’ll find a comfortable home in compelling stories you probably never knew existed. If you’re into economics, demographics, money, religion and anything else important to our various cultures, there is something great here for you to ponder, argue with, laugh at, have “aha” moments, and in general, vastly widen your view of Our Modern World.
As you’ll read when you get to the marketing section of this proposal, it was difficult to find a best selling, well reviewed book that covers as broad a spectrum of subjects—especially with the unique, acerbic, scholarly and humorous voice, that is narrating, Our Modern World. The table of contents alone is an eye opener!
