Mark Clubb, Author
Mark Clubb was born to write, “This is Our Modern World: Get Used to it. A Guide to Thinking Clearly and Thriving in a World of Chaos. (The History and Future of You and Me, Economics, Politics, Global Power, AI, Money, Religion, Climate, Sex and Birth Control, and Much More.)”
With his urbane libertarian bearing, and acerbic wit (he pulls no punches in his authorial debut, nor in his life), he serves up a smorgasbord of worldly knowledge that will both stun the readers as well as entertain them while he simultaneous is telling readers they should “dog ear,” underline, and highlight important passages, encouraging them all the while to make notes by providing the graphic spaces in which to do so.
Born in Preston, Lancashire, England in 1960, Mark has a BA (Honors) degree in Economics and Business studies although he will tell you life has been his real classroom. His friends are books and music. Everything from the Torah to the Quran, economics, to Marx or Socrates; Orwell, to “Laugh on the loo.” His home is everywhere; his currency, the truth. He is also funny, a sort of intellectual self- effacing British stand-up comic. Describing himself as comfortable being uncomfortable, he is always moving pitching his wandering Bedouin tent, with his wife, Elizabeth, his memories, thoughts and his important music where ever “water” can be found.

From 1966 to 1979, Mark lived and was educated in Jersey, attending Victoria College. He began his career in 1981 at the London based, internationally respected firm of stock brokers, Hoare Govett. Starting as a company analyst, he went on to build a 27-year career in investment banking. He has held senior management roles for UBS Philips, Drew, and BZW. His involvement with hundreds of corporate mergers and acquisitions, fundraising activities, listings and IPOs, means he has a deep understanding of corporate capital structures, their internal financial workings, management initiatives, as well as the delicate balance of the relationships between company performance, and long-term share price behaviors. (He intends to use these formidable re- sources in his own marketing efforts for this book. See Marketing section.)
Having to interface with regulators and institutions over those years has also given Mark an extensive knowledge of various philosophies, investment styles, strategies, marketing and advertising processes, and disciplines. Everyone is a genius until they are not!
He has operated in the extremes of economic and stock market conditions, including the UK recessions of the early 80s, early 90s and of course the credit crisis of 2008/9.
He has witnessed 15 UK Prime Ministers and 12 U.S. Presidents with all the attendant changes in politics. He ob- served the Soviet Union collapse and China being reintegrated into global trade. He bought one of the first Macs, and has always embraced technology. The world has changed much during his life. A lover of music his collection is the soundtrack he uses to think and remind himself of all these changes and the future of hope. This is Our Modern World is a punk rock musical in literary form.
